............The music of BLUES TRAVELER is a nice blend of rock-n-roll and blues, containing unbelievable harmonica solos by the 'great' John Popper, and the energy of a musically talented back-up band. Last night's show at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco was a superb performance with two hours plus of music, with John Popper leading the band into some incredible jams. The show also was for a good cause, a benefit for Rainforest Action Network (RAN) that works to protect the Earth's rainforests and support the rights of their inhabitants through education, grassroots organizing and non-violent direct action. The Dave Matthews Band has announced its support for this cause also. It didn't come cheap - with the front tables starting at $l,000 and working its way up to the upper balcony seats for $50. But the (RAN) corporation will use it wisely to preserve our forests and wild life.
.......... Blues Traveler was well received making their appearance at the Warfield. It has been about a year since they came through here last. With solo projects in their midst, they are not really on a scheduled tour until later this year, said their tour manager Dave Precheur. Last night's show was truly a rare pleasure to see these guys in action again. They played music that just makes you dance your heart out, from a list of twenty songs ranging from Carolina Blues to the popular Hook, Run-Around & The Mountains Win Again. They also did a beautiful John Lennon version of the song Imagine. Phil Lesh from the ex-Grateful Dead and Merle Saunders sat in on a few songs making this night a very memorable musical event.
